Common Skincare Mistakes and How you can Avoid them

In this digital age many of us are looking at celebrities, social media, influencers, and YouTube to get the latest skincare products. You see your favorite celebrity or blogger with beautiful skin and wonder what are they using and how can you get your skin to look like theirs. Skin envy is a real thing that’ll have you trying every product under the sun only to end up disappointed when you don’t get the glowing results that they did. It’s happened to me and I’m sure you’ve experienced this as well. That old saying is so true; what works for one person doesn’t mean it’ll work for all. Before adding many items to your skincare regimen read this list on common skincare mistakes and how to avoid them.

Tip # 1 Know Your Skin

As I stated before you have to know your skin in order to determine if a product will work for you or not. There are numerous skin types from normal, dry, oily, sensitive, combination. Knowing the basics will help you select products that are formulated for your skin type. If you are unsure you can either ask a skin specialist or just take a close look at your skin. For example if your face tends to get oily throughout the day then chances are you have oily skin. Or if your skin feels dry and dehydrated then you might have dry skin. Paying attention to how your skin reacts to certain products and weather climates also helps determine what your skin type is.

Tip #2 Monitor your skin

I touched on this a bit during the first tip but paying close attention to how your skin reacts to certain products is one of the best ways to avoid using products that don’t agree with your skin. For example if you notice a rash or breakout within hours or even a day of using a product that might mean it doesn’t work well with your skin type. If I notice an allergic reaction to a product I stop using it immediately as to not agitate my skin. Allergic reactions aside it’s best to test new skincare products for at least 2-3 weeks before assessing the products effectiveness. Also try to avoid trying multiple new products at the same time. It’s hard to see whether a product is working or not if you are trying several products at once. Introduce new skincare items one at a time then after a few weeks you can determine whether it’s working for you or not.

Tip #3 Keep it Simple

This piggybacks off the previous tip, which is to keep things simple. Contrary to popular belief you don’t need several products in your arsenal in order to have beautiful skin. I recommend a few staple products that work well for your skin type. Once you know your skin as suggested in tip 1, you’ll be able to select products that work well with your skin type. Select staple products such as cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and treatment to build a basic skincare routine. Apple Rose Beauty skincare kits are a great all in one skincare regimen that can take care of most skincare needs.
