5 Steps to Maintaining a Skincare Routine

5 Steps to Maintaining a Healthy Skincare Routine


One of the pain points I hear often from many of you is that it's so hard to stick to a skincare regimen. What's most difficult is not so much knowing what to do as it is getting in the habit of doing it.

Believe me, I have been there and understand how difficult it is to start a new routine.

Here are 5 steps that have worked for me in starting and maintaining a healthy skincare routine. I'm sure they can work for you too.

1.  Prepare

It's important to have the products on hand that you plan to be using. I can't tell you how many times I would say I want to use a mask once a week, only to find out that I ran out of the one I wanted to use and had not replaced it. 

2.  Keep products in sight

I believe that when it comes to creating habits it's important to have visual reminders. If you see the facial cleanser in your shower, you're more likely to use it when you shower. If your facial moisturizer is in your medicine cabinet next to your toothbrush, chances are you will remember to apply it.

3.  Automate it

We all have a morning routine. Maybe you snooze the alarm 5 times, then wake up to walk the dog and then jump in the shower. Whatever your routine, it's become almost automatic and you don't have to spend a lot of time thinking about what to do next. When starting out with a skincare routine, inserting the skincare step at the same point in your already established routine is helpful. For instance you can cleanse your face right before you brush your teeth every morning. 

4.  Take note of changes

Just like when you begin exercising you take note of your progress, when you start a new skincare regimen you should take note of your skin's progress. Does it seem clearer? Even if the blemishes haven't all disappeared, does it feel smoother? These small positive changes will serve to motivate you to stick with your regimen to see even more results.

5.  Celebrate

Put some dance music on and do a little shimmy when you get it right! :)

There you have it. It might take some dedication but very soon a healthy skincare routine can become a regular and integral part of your lifestyle. Then you will be well on your way to gaining and maintaining Beautiful, Glowing skin.
